Be Kind To Yourself - 15 Simple Ways To Practice Self-Love

"One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself."

Finding it hard to prioritize yourself over others? Yes, life is always a roller coaster regardless of our backgrounds. It’s necessary to time and again remind that the most important asset to invest in is ourselves.

In this day and age, it’s rather difficult to stop comparing ourselves with others and not let our emotions play spoil sport.

Self-love is often misunderstood with being selfish. That’s a big no! Self-love is accepting our flaws and lifting other while lifting yourself. It’s the Art Of Loving and Embracing your body and mind, just the way it is!

Here are a few simple but high impacting ways you could start practicing self-love:

1. Take a day off for Self-Care. It could be a day in spa getting your favorite massage or any at-home routine for skin and body care.

2. Spend time alone doing what you love the most. Is it a hobby or a movie you’ve been putting off to watch for a long time now? Just do it.

3. Cut toxic people out of your live right now! And I mean it... You can identify if the ones close to you are toxic this way- They do no celebrate your wins, are judgmental and never encourage you. This is one of the most important aspects of self-care.

4. Stay active. Hit the gym or start with some low intensity workouts at home. This is to not lose weight but to release those endorphins and start seeing a rush of energy naturally.

5. Start following a cleaner diet. What we eat impacts on our mind too. So why not keep it clean by cutting down on junk food and increasing our intake of fruits and veggies. Psst... a cheat day is allowed though!

6. Give yourself a reward. Did a good job at work or home? Treat yourself. Go shopping!

7. Stand in front of the mirror and talk. May sound crazy but this really works. Face the mirror and tell yourself why you’re worth it or things in life you’re grateful about.

8. Journal away. Write your thoughts down, everyday, good or bad. What made your day better, did a random stranger smile and compliment you?

9. Put up sticky notes. In the shower or in your study, write up your favorite quotes that stuck with you. This will be a nice little reminder when you start to feel low.

10. Read books written by inspiring folks. Love how autobiographies showcase an inspiring person’s journey through hardships, failures and most importantly how they overcame them. You might pick a secret or two from those incredible success stories.

11. Take a solo trip. You would be surprised of what you’re capable of! Research places that are safe for a solo traveler and pack your bags...

12. Learn a new skill or a language and get good at it eventually. This will make you feel on top of your game and keep you super motivated.

13. Stop comparing yourself with others. This is the crust of self-love. You are unique and great just the way you are. The other person is already taken, stop being like them and love yourself in every way possible. Also remember everyone deals with issues they don’t talk about and no one’s perfect.

14. Spend more time with family and close friends. Your circle reflects who you are. Surround yourself with people who encourage and celebrate you. And please do the same to them.

15. Embrace your life and body, you don’t get a BOGO offer with ‘em. And do not expect others to love you when you don’t love yourself enough in the first place.

Let’s learn to not succumb to all the curve balls life throws at us. Remember to have fun in this teeny journey, because there’s no coming back :)
